Phone Lookup

Check where a phone number is from, what kind of line it is and how to write it in international form

What a phone number can tell you

A phone number is not just digits. Its opening country calling code says which country it belongs to, and the national number that follows is laid out by rules each country sets: how long it is, which prefixes mean a mobile, a landline or a toll-free line, and how it is written there.

This tool reads those rules from the same public numbering plan library that telephone systems use, so it works for numbers anywhere in the world without needing to call anyone. It is a format check, not a directory: it cannot reveal a person's name or address, and no free service can.

Enter a number in any reasonable form -- +256 700 000000, 0700 000000 or 256700000000 -- and choose the country if the number has no country code of its own.
