Collapse the whitespace and comments in a block of HTML

What minifying does

HTML is mostly whitespace and markup a browser does not need. Minifying removes comments and collapses runs of spaces, tabs and blank lines, which trims the page's weight. It is a tidy-up, not a rewrite, so the markup itself is left alone.
